Cpl Bill Bogard USMC

Inspired to Leave a Legacy

Cpl Bill Bogard USMC graduated from high school in 1969 and was accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy. He happened to pass a Marine recruiting station one day, and out of the blue, the John Wayne movie, Sands of Iwo Jima, came to mind. At that moment, Bill knew he wanted to be a Marine, so he walked in and enlisted.

Bill was supporting the MCHF as a Devil Dog member and had purchased a brick. When he read about a fellow Marine who had included a gift to the MCHF from his will, he was inspired to step up and do more. Just months later, he wrote his first will, and included a gift to the MCHF.

Bill first visited the Museum not long after it had opened. "It's a humbling experience to be a part of the Marine Corps and the Museum – they are forever", said Bill. He is still awestruck when he visits the Museum – it is a window into Marine Corps history and it's his history, too.
